If your roles have drifted and nobody is quite sure who can do what any more, you can put the built-in roles back to their original permissions.
What it does
The five built-in roles, Owner, Admin, Member, Billing-only and Read-only, return to the permissions they had when your workspace was created.
Before you use it
Reset undoes deliberate decisions as readily as accidental ones. Work through this first:
- Write down any intentional changes. If you widened Member six months ago so your developers could do something specific, resetting takes it away and nobody will remember why it stopped working.
- Check who holds each role now. A reset changes what those people can do, immediately.
- Consider fixing one role by hand instead. If only one role is wrong, correct that one rather than resetting all five.
Doing it
Open Team, then the roles area, and choose the reset option. It takes effect immediately for everyone.
What it does not touch
- Custom roles you built. Those are yours and are left alone.
- Who has which role. Everyone keeps the role they were assigned; only what that role permits changes.
- Per-website access. Those assignments are separate and are not affected.
Afterwards
Tell your team. The most common complaint after a reset is somebody quietly losing an ability they used daily and assuming the product is broken.
