The portal can notify you in the app, by email, or both, and you choose which messages you want. Open Notification Preferences.
The billing and credit messages

|---|---|
| Payment successful | A charge went through |
| Payment failed | A charge did not go through |
| Plan limit warning | You are approaching a limit |
| Plan limit reached | You have hit one |
| Downgrade scheduled | A move to a smaller plan is queued |
| Downgrade applied | It has taken effect |
| Credit balance low | Your balance is running down |
| Credits expiring | Seven days before a batch expires |
| Credits available to claim | Welcome or bonus credits are waiting |
| Credits purchased | A pack was bought |
| Automatic top up fired | Your balance refilled itself |
| Automatic top up failed | It could not |
| Credits deducted | Credits were spent |
The ones to leave on
Turn off whatever you find noisy, but keep these four by email:
- Payment failed. Missing this is what turns a small card problem into a change of plan.
- Automatic top up failed. Same reasoning.
- Credits expiring. Seven days is enough to use them, if you know.
- Credits available to claim. Otherwise credits you were given sit unclaimed.
Make sure somebody is reading them
Billing messages go to the account Owner. If that address belongs to someone who has left, or to a mailbox nobody opens, you will not see any of this. Check who receives them, and consider giving a finance colleague the Billing-only role so two people see the money messages without either needing access to your scan results.
In-app and email are separate
Each message can be set independently for the portal and for email. Keeping things in the app and off email is a reasonable way to reduce noise without losing the record, though for payment failures the email is the one that actually reaches you in time.
