Adding your first website

Adding a website is the first of the three steps the portal asks of you, and it takes about a minute.

Add it

  1. Open Websites and choose Add Website.
  2. Enter the address of the site.
  3. Give it a name. This is what you will see in lists and what appears on reports, so use something a colleague would recognise.
  4. Save.

Which address to enter

Use the address a visitor would actually land on, including the subdomain if you use one. If your site is reachable at both the bare domain and the www version, use whichever one your visitors are redirected to, so your results describe the site people really see.

Point it at your home page rather than a deep page. Discovery starts from the address you give and follows links outward, so starting deep means finding less.

What happens next

The site appears in your Websites list. Nothing has been scanned yet. From here you can start discovery, which finds your pages, and then choose which of them to scan.

Keeping a long list usable

Once you manage more than a handful of sites, two small features help. You can pin a site to keep it at the top of your list, and you can add a note to a site, which is useful for recording who owns it or what stage it is at.

Removing a site

You can remove a website from your workspace. Its scans and reports go with it, so download anything you want to keep first.
