Alongside scanning, the portal includes six tools you can use on any page at any time, on every plan including Free. They are useful while you wait for a scan, and more useful still while you are designing something, before the problem is built.
Contrast Checkers
Check whether text is readable against its background. Contrast is the most common accessibility failure on the web and one of the easiest to avoid, provided somebody checks before the colours are signed off rather than after.
Colour Palette Generator
Build a palette where the combinations you are going to use actually pass. Far cheaper than discovering at launch that your brand colour fails against white and every button on the site needs changing.
Heading Structure Analyzer
Shows the heading outline of a page. Many people navigate entirely by jumping between headings, so an outline that skips levels or uses headings for styling is genuinely disorienting. This is also the quickest way to see whether a page has a sensible structure at all.
Reading Level Checker
Estimates how hard your writing is to read. Not a WCAG AA requirement at this level, but plain language helps people with cognitive disabilities, people reading in a second language, and everyone in a hurry.
Vision Simulator
Shows your page as it appears to people with different kinds of colour vision deficiency and reduced vision. The fastest way to find places where colour alone carries meaning, such as a red and green status indicator that looks identical to a substantial share of your visitors.
Top Scores
Your best scoring scans across your sites. Useful for seeing which of your sites are in good shape, and for showing progress to people who are not going to read an issue list.
Where they fit
These tools check one page at a time and give you an answer immediately. A scan checks many pages at once, and can be reviewed by a specialist to give you a certified score. Use the tools while you work, and scans to know where you stand.
