Before certain actions become available, we ask you to show that the site you added is one you are entitled to work on.
Why we ask
Two reasons. Scanning puts load on a site, and nobody should be able to point that at someone else's server. And accessibility results are sensitive: a report listing exactly where a site fails is not something a stranger should be able to generate about a business they do not run.
How to verify
Open Domain Verification and follow the steps shown for your site. The portal tells you exactly what to add and where. If you do not manage your own DNS or hosting, this is usually a short request to whoever does.
What it unlocks
Verification is what moves a site from "added" to "fully yours". Until it is done, some actions stay unavailable and you may see a prompt to verify when you try to use them.
If someone else has already claimed the site
A site can only be actively claimed by one workspace at a time. If you see that it is already claimed, the usual explanation is that a colleague added it to a different workspace, or an agency you work with added it to theirs. Check internally first. If that does not explain it, contact support and we will look into it.
Agencies and client sites
If you scan sites you do not own, verification still applies. In practice this means asking your client to add a record for you, which most are happy to do once. It is also a useful conversation to have at the start of an engagement rather than the week a report is due.
