Credits are the platform's unit for paid extras. Ordinary scanning within your plan does not use them.
What comes with your plan

The clock starts when the credits arrive, not when you first use one.
Buying more
You can buy credits at any time from the Credits area. They are added to your balance immediately.
Automatic top ups
If you would rather not think about it, set up a reload so your balance refills automatically when it runs low. You can change or stop it whenever you like.
Keeping an eye on your balance
Your balance is shown in the portal along with a history of what was added, used and when it expires. If you have credits approaching their expiry date, that history is where you will see it. Worth a look every few months rather than discovering it the day you need them.
